The Best Small Business Shopping in St. Louis - #ShopSmallSTL

Updated: May 14, 2021

Wanna help your community this holiday season? Embrace shopping small!

In the year that saw Amazon raking in more than $88.9 billion so far in 2020, and many small businesses shuttering their doors (temporarily or permanently), the small business community is smaller than ever. Resist the urge to do all of your holiday shopping via big box stores and massive retail giants and instead, support one of the cool local businesses working hard to stay in business amid the pandemic.

Abigail's Gift Boutique

In South City St. Louis is where you'll find Abigail's Gift Boutique, right off of Hampton Avenue. We love this little boutique for holiday shopping because it checks all the boxes; men's, women's, home decor, plenty of locally made items, and a nice selection of St. Louis-themed and Christmas-themed things to browse. Here is where we found a bright red Cardinal bird feeder, wind chimes, locally made candles and soaps for corporate gifts we put together for a client this year.

They even have a children's section as well as birthday, wedding, and bachelorette gifts. Abigail's makes for a great first-stop on a local shopping trip in St. Louis.

Green Earth Art Company

Pick up a unique, locally made piece of art that anyone on your holiday list will love. Green Earth makes pandemic shopping easier with online ordering and limited shopping hours so you can browse the one of a kind pieces in person. Every piece is unique, with prices that are affordable - another 2020 must have for budget-conscious shoppers.

Cool Stuff Period

We've worked with lots of sustainably-focused companies, and love all of the treasures you find at Cool Stuff Period. The recently moved to a newer, bigger store on Manchester Ave., just a minute away from another vintage-lovers favorite - The Green Shag Market. You'll find interesting art, sculptures, furniture and inspiration at this artfully curated store. If your home needs a little personality, you've found the right place!

Leopard Boutique

A fashionistas haven in St. Louis! Shop trendy clothing and accessories in Webster Groves. As soon as you walk in, you can tell the store had gone to great lengths to provide a safe shopping experience. They even have a collection of stylish face masks to glam up any work-from-home or staycation look. Curbside pick-up is also available for safe shopping in St. Louis.

There are also other smaller makers, artists and creatives you can support in St. Louis. Twinkle Brews upcycles beer bottles to make candles. STL Style House creates cool shirts and art prints. Flowers & Weeds has stylish ornaments, Christmas trees, and plants for gifting. We also love Mesa Home and the two storefronts that make up Urban Matter in South Grand.

With so many options, it's easy to replace a gift shopping trip to Target, Walmart or Amazon with a visit to one of these (and so many more!) local gems, supporting small business right here in St. Louis.

Happy Shopping Small!
